Taurātua

July 20, 2020

Meet Vaine Veiao, a local Cook Islander living in Rarotonga. He lives off the land and is known for his knowledge of Cook Islands myths and legends. Here he tells the story of a Polynesian legend about the Taurātua, Itiki Manuka. Taurātua means a spirit or spiritual protector. And in this story the Taurātua takes the form of Itiki Manuka, a giant shark with a whale’s tail.
