Sharks Pacific is seeking a communications contractor to add to our growing team and to help tell the story of protecting sharks and the people and places they depend on.
SCOPE OF WORK: COMMUNICATIONS CONTRACTOR
OVERVIEW
The mission of Sharks Pacific is to understand the importance of sharks in Pacific communities, and to advocate for the conservation and responsible management of sharks and the related marine environment through research, outreach and advocacy.
The Communications Contractor, which may be an individual, consultant, or firm, will lead communications efforts to grow our audience, manage partnerships, and ensure Sharks Pacific’s mission and branding remain strong and distinct. This role is critical in leveraging development and marketing strategies to enhance support for the organization’s goals while amplifying program impact. The contractor reports to the Director of Operations, working closely with program staff and external partners.
DELIVERABLES
- A 2025 communications plan that incorporates fundraising and marketing objectives.
- Monthly reports on audience growth, supporter engagement, and campaign metrics.
- A quarterly content calendar for blog, email marketing, and social media platforms.
- A catalog of branded and impact-focused content for all channels.
- Standard operating procedures and guides for campaigns and digital marketing tasks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Develop and execute a strategic communications plan to expand visibility and audience engagement and to support fundraising and marketing efforts.
- Collaborate with the development team, program staff and other partners to create campaigns that inspire donor and partner engagement.
- Create media plans and shot lists for field operations, work with photographers and videographers to collect and catalog media collateral, and manage release forms.
- Update and maintain website messaging and coordinate with the website development team.
- Develop new—or refine existing—processes, standards, and procedures to be adopted by the organization to help streamline communications efforts.

- Develop and implement strategic social media campaigns to advance and promote our mission and programs.
- Develop digital content (social media posts, videos, blog posts, articles, email copy, and etc.) that reflects Sharks Pacific’s research, outreach, advocacy, and development priorities.
- Create and maintain a content calendar to ensure a consistent presence online.
- Work with program staff to create accurate, engaging content aligned with organizational goals.
- Highlight the impact of Sharks Pacific’s work through compelling, entertaining, and uplifting stories that resonate with supporters.
- Use proven methods to grow Sharks Pacific’s digital audience and implement strategies to translate audience growth into measurable outcomes for fundraising and program impact.

- Track metrics and provide regular updates on audience growth, engagement, and campaign outcomes.
- Use data insights to refine strategies and demonstrate the impact of communications on fundraising and program goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong track record working in digital media, marketing, and communications with proven success in strategic planning and campaign/advocacy.
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing large media campaigns, including experience with television and video, a plus.
- Experience creating diverse and compelling content for websites and social media.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work and produce key results with attention to detail.
- Ability to translate scientific topics into accessible content that supports program and fundraising goals.
- Proficiency in analytics tools and data-driven decision-making.
- Clear understanding of balancing partnerships while maintaining organizational independence.
- Graphic design and photo editing skills preferred.
- Knowledge of WordPress, Constant Contact, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop preferred.
TERMS
March 1 through December 31, 2025, with the potential for renewal based on performance. The communications contractor will work remotely, but needs to be available for meetings in PST (GMT-8) and HST (GMT-10) time zones.
